Mouth is one of the most vulnerable part of our body and Gum Disease is one of the most common disease faced by us and that too at the global level. We are so much ignorant towards our teeth that we end up with some or the other problem and Gum Disease being one of the most common.

We fail to realize that our gums protect and support our teeth and hence it becomes important for us to be cautious and avoid any Gum Disease. At times when we are sick there is a strong possibility that we might end up losing the white shiny luster of our teeth. This also impacts our overall health.

What causes Gum Disease

As per the discussions with many dentists it has come to a conclusion that this happens because of lack of brushing. However it should also be noted that alone brushing cannot help in giving you a healthy mouth. Brushing needs to be accompanied by flossing of your teeth. To put it across in a more simple yet technical terms – It happens when bacteria builds up a film on your teeth and causes inflammation. The reason why bacteria forms on your teeth is because lack of proper dental hygiene. So it all comes down to brushing and flossing in order to avoid any complication to your Gums.

Swelling of gums is one of the most prominent signs of Gingivitis however the other visible signs are as follows:

  • Bleeding while brushing and flossing your teeth
  • Receding Gums

You are more prone to suffer from Gum Disease if you:

  • Chew tobacco or smoke
  • Pregnant
  • Have a family history of gum diseases
  • Have Diabetes
  • Suffer from high level of stress
  • Have a habit of grinding your teeth

How to control Gum Disease

The best way to control it is by following proper dental habits. Furthermore you need to also visit your dentist atleast 2 times in a year. This will help him analyze whether you need to undergo any sort of treatment or not. In case you are suffering from Gum Disease he will eventually remove plaque.

How to avoid Gum Disease

It has always been said that Precaution is better than cure so you need to follow simple steps to avoid this disease. The steps include:

  1. Brush twice a day for two minutes with a fluoride based toothpaste. This should be followed by Flossing
  2. Use mouthwash
  3. Visit your dentist regularly.
