However the conventional form of treatment which involves surgery is not cost effective and not everyone can undergo. This is the reason why you have the option of non-surgical option of periodontal treatment.

Periodontitis is a very intricate disease which has affect on both oral and systematic repercussions. There are two types of Periodontal Treatment – Surgical and Non-Surgical, however these days patients are opting for the non-surgical treatment. However patients need to understand that the first step for treatment starts from them. You need to take care of your teeth by brushing twice and flossing, avoiding acidic foods and drinking soda and not to mention quit smoking. Following these steps would reduce the Periodontal Treatment procedure to almost half.

The non-surgical periodontal treatment is not a new procedure. It has been followed since ages and has used multiple hand instruments. The main motive of non-surgical periodontal treatment is cleaning by removing plaque from teeth and other infected roots.

What is the procedure non-surgical Periodontal Treatment?

The non-surgical Periodontal Treatment involves the following:

  • Professional Dental Cleaning: This involves cleaning and removal of plaque along with tartar. Your dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth and do the cleaning part. Here you need to understand that plaque is an adamant substance and does not get removed without professional cleaning. The plaque and tartar will be removed from the upper and lower gum line. During this visit if your dentist finds out that you are suffering from some sort of gum disease then you might have to visit the dental clinic twice a year.
  • Scaling and root planing: This involves deep cleaning and is under the influence of anesthesia. As per this disease plaque and tartar are removed from above and below the gum line. The removal involves scrapping(scaling) away. Furthermore the rough areas on tooth are made smooth and this is called as planing. Smoothing of the rough areas ensures that the bacteria is removed. This in turn provides a clean surface for the gums which reattaches the teeth. This procedure is carried out only if your dentist and periodontist realizes that you have plaque and tartar on the gums which would be removed.

Taking care of teeth has always been imperative as it facilitates overall healthy body. So take good care of them and make sure to follow proper dental hygiene. Brushing twice a day and flossing at least once will ensure healthy teeth however you need to keep a check on what you eat as well.
