Role of Dental Implant

Role of Dental Implant

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root which is placed into your jaw to support a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental Implants are the best solution for people who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an accident, or some other reason.

The benefits of restoring missing teeth can’t be overlooked. Replacing lost teeth not only enhances your smile but also improves speech, chewing ability, and facial structure. It boosts self-confidence and prevents other teeth from shifting. A healthy, complete set of teeth contributes to overall well-being and makes everyday activities more enjoyable and comfortable.

  • Dental implants are permanent.
  • Dental implants preserve and protect your healthy bone and surrounding teeth also.
  • Dental implants look like natural.
  • Dental implants are most effective and an immediate solution.

DENTAL IMPLANT PROCEDURE

In this procedure, your dentist, your Periodontist and you are regularly involved. Your Periodontist and dentist will examine you properly to determine where and how your implant should be placed. Your Periodontist will create a treatment plan tailored to meet your needs according to your specific condition and the type of implant chosen.

  • Replacing a Single Tooth:  When a single tooth is missing, one dental implant topped with a crown can effectively replace it, restoring function, appearance, and preventing bone loss in the jaw over time.
  • Replacing Several Teeth: When several teeth are missing then implant-supported bridges can replace them.
  • Replacing all of Your Teeth: When all of your teeth are missing then an implant-supported full bridge or full denture can replace them.
  • Sinus Augmentation: The success of the implant depends on the quantity and quality of the bone where the implant is to be placed. Because of insufficient bone quantity and quality and the closeness to the sinus, the upper back jaw has considered the most difficult areas to successfully place dental implants. But sinus augmentation helps to correct this problem by raising the sinus floor and developing bone for the placement of dental implants.
  • Ridge Modification: Deformities in the upper or lower jaw can cause the problem of inadequate bone in which to place dental implants. To correct this problem, the gum is lifted away from the ridge to expose the bony defect and then defect is filled with bone or bone substitute to build up the ridge. Ridge modification helps to increase your chances for successful implants that can last for years to come.

USE OF ANESTHESIA IN DENTAL IMPLANT

Local anesthesia is typically sufficient when the procedure involves only one or two teeth, ensuring the patient remains comfortable and pain-free. However, for more extensive procedures involving several teeth, conscious sedation or general anesthesia may be recommended. This helps manage anxiety, reduces discomfort, and allows the dentist to work more efficiently during longer or more complex treatments.

TAKE CARE AFTER DENTAL IMPLANT

Your periodontist will collaborate with you and your dentist after treatment to ensure long-term oral health. Regular check-ups, follow-up visits, and consistent monitoring of your teeth and gums are essential. This helps detect any early signs of issues like gum disease or infection. Maintaining proper oral hygiene and attending scheduled appointments supports the success of your overall periodontal care plan by reducing plaque buildup, preventing gum infections, and allowing early detection of potential issues.

HOME-CARE GUIDELINES FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS

  1. Brush your teeth twice in a day with low-abrasive dentifrice.
