Dental Implants: Know the disadvantages of the procedure
Dental Implants
Being from the dental field and being one of the trusted celebrity dentist it is important for me to keep you informed about the disadvantages of dental implants. I have been dealing with patients and performing dental surgeries for more than a decade. There are benefits of dental surgical treatment but no surgery comes without a complication or you can say without a glitch. Be it immediate load implant or full mouth implant, they all have their pros and cons. We’ve discussed a lot about the pros so today let us focus on the disadvantages of this surgical procedure.
Pondering on the disadvantages of Dental Implants
Cost of dental implants
One of the biggest disadvantages for patients is the cost of the surgery. I have always been asked about the cost of the surgical treatments like bone grafting or implant crown or immediate load implants or full mouth implant. To be honest the cost of these surgical procedures differ from one patient to another. It depends upon the difficulty of the procedure.
These are procedure which should be performed only by experts who have a decade of surgical experience. So make sure that you research about the dentist under whose supervision you will be going through this procedure.
Implant procedure is not covered by dental insurance
Dental Insurance is important but another disadvantage as well. Majority of dental insurance plans do not cover the dental implants, bone graft, sinus lifts and many other surgical procedure. I am not saying the dental insurance is worthless and you shouldn’t pt for it. The fact is dental insurance has a very low yearly limit and does not cover the total implant procedure. So think twice before using dental insurance to pay off the dental implants process.
Surgery is absolutely mandatory for dental implants
The implant gets attached to the bone and hence surgery is downright mandatory for dental implants. Every surgery comes with slight risks. The average dental implant complication ranges from 5-10%.
The risk of surgery might be infection, prolonged bleeding, damage to other teeth, nerve damage, delayed bone healing, jaw fracture and many others.
The other disadvantages of dental implants are that you will loose bone over a period of time. This is the reason why you should always choose a very skilled dental implant surgeon. Implants also take time for bone integration.
