It may sound correct to some extent that the harder you brush your teeth, the whiter and shinier they’ll be. This is called as Dental Abrasion and occurs when any foreign object is rubbed against our teeth and gradually removes the enamel from the surface. Reason for Dental Abrasion and how to avoid:
Brushing as if you are fighting with your teeth is the most common reason for Dental Abrasion. But lets not be ruthless towards the toothbrush because we tend to use so many things on our teeth that blaming toothbrush alone will be wrong. We have a tendency to use toothpick, which helps in clearing off any left over food, is also one reason why we suffer from Dental Abrasion.
Furthermore we have some retainers on our teeth that do not fit too well. This results in the wire being rubbed against our teeth and hence removing the enamel.
When you face dental abrasion, the enamel gets removed which exposes the nerves hence resulting in tooth sensitivity. The tooth gets more prone to infection. In case you have neglected tooth abrasion then you will have to undergo tooth filling or even tooth removal.
To avoid dental abrasion you need to make sure that you use soft bristles tooth brush; ensure that you only chew on food and not any other hard substance moreover if you need to remove food debris then use floss and not toothpick; without fail you need to see your dentist so that he can tell you how you need to brush properly without affecting your teeth.
